India’s leading e-commerce company, Flipkart, has ended its work-from-home (WFH) policy, according to Moneycontrol. The Walmart-owned company is now asking all of its employees to work all five days of the week from office.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Flipkart has offered its workers the option to work from their homes, but has since been taking initiatives to call employees back to the office. The company first asked its senior employees, including vice-presidents and above, to start coming to the office more regularly. “However, the new requirement now is for all employees, across functions and roles, to work from the office five days a week,” a Flipkart employee told Moneycontrol.
In order to make the transition smoother, Flipkart has decided to call back its employees to the office in different phases over the next few months. That said, the e-commerce giant will be providing certain flexible work options to its employees. As per reports, employees will still be able to avail of a certain number of WFH days. Certain employees will also be exempt from the work-from-office mandate depending on their job requirements.
“At Flipkart, the vast majority of our employees and contractual/gig workforce, especially those in field roles, have always operated from their respective locations of work,” a company spokesperson explained to Moneycontrol. “In our corporate headquarters, we have been pursuing a gradual return to the office (similar to pre-COVID levels) for the past year and have seen increased interactions, synergies and deeper collaboration across teams. By returning to the office, we aim to foster a strong sense of community for new hires and existing employees; and a shared focus on our common goal.”
With its new policy, Flipkart is following in the footsteps of companies like Amazon, Meesho, and Infosys, which have also implemented new work-from-office policies. With the rise of the e-commerce industry, Flipkart will be looking forward to make the best use of its workforce.
